Monastery Tegher
Built with the goal to stand firm for thousand years, until the Second Advent or the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, the Cathedral of Zvartnots was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2000. It is located 15 kilometers from Yerevan and can be found on the Ejmiatsin highway, so it can be visited either on the way to Ejmiatsin or at coming back from there.
Being one of the tallest buildings in that period the Cathedral of Zvartnots is a real architectural miracle that was consecrated in 652. There is an interesting fact regarding the consecration; it is said that at the consecration Constans II, the Emperor of Byzantine, was so much impressed by the cathedral that decided to take the cathedral’s architect to Constantinople to build a similar structure there. The architect, however, got sick on the way and died.
